I was reading something interesting at work the other day, it was about “Work Breakdown Structures”… an article on good project management techniques (aah, don’t worry I have ages before I handle a project but this is something part of my masters curriculum)
ok to quote the exact words of the author,
Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
A Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is a hierarchic decomposition or breakdown of a project or major activity into successive levels, where each level is a finer breakdown of the preceding one.
To put it in lame IT words (coz most of the IT industry words are utterly exaggerated, more to do with showing off skills even if the engineer doesn’t have a slightest hint of any, huff.)… so putting in simpler words…
Most project control techniques are based on breaking down the goal of the project into several intermediate goals, each of which can in turn be broken down further. This process can be repeated until each goal is small enough to be well understood. We can then plan for each goal individually – its resource requirements, assignment of responsibility scheduling, etc.
Well even though I am not much into performing such activities at work, I thought that it would be helpful if we could make use of them in our personal lives :) wouldn’t it be good to have a “Life Breakdown Structure”?
You know how we sometimes get so lost in doing (or not doing) something which is not at all our list of ‘Things to do before we die’… that we absolutely ignore the fact that “LIFE IS SO DAMN SHORT!!!” (probably a truth you’ve heard every single day in your life)
Then why is it that we ignore the things which we reaaaaaally want to do because they are just not “high priority as of now” :(
So, starting at this very moment I prepared a sample LBS:

Now at work we need to define the number of hours we would require to accomplish each goal we jot down… however, I don’t wanna do so for life… it might be a good thing to do but who would want a daily time sheet at home, right? :)
However, I would really want to keep a track of all the things I want to do and make sure to check the status of them once in a while… also add the new interests I develop over every few weeks (or sometimes even days!)
So here is an update a few days later……

And as usual, here is the “Point to Remember” for the day:
Parkinson’s Principle: ‘Work expands to fill the available volume”
So lets make sure that we fill up the available volume with all the good / bad / ugly / sloppy / sluggish :P things we wish to do! :)
Go crazy folks!
